Biography
Edward Daniels is an actor, producer, and entrepreneur working steadily in film and theatre in Washington, DC, since 2003. During his final year at the University of Virginia in 2001, Daniels won the prestigious Washington Literary Society & Debating Union Fall Oratory Contest. With that win, he decided to abandon a pre-med curriculum and embark upon a professional acting career in theatre & film.
His Washington, DC area acting credits include work at Round House Theatre (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest), Charter Theatre (Am I Black Enough Yet?), American Century Theatre (Spoon River Anthology), Washington Shakespeare Company (Royal Hunt of the Sun), The Kennedy Center (Jason Invisible, Diamond in the Rough), and Studio Theatre (Passing Strange). He has twice appeared in the annual Source Theatre Festival (Feel Your Breath and This is Not a Time Bomb) as well as the annual Capital Fringe Festival (Lexi Star’s Privates and Freakshow).
For his portrayal of Mikey in Jon Elston’s The Interrogation Room, Daniels received the Outstanding Achievement in Acting Award from the 2003 Source Theatre Festival. In 2010, for his role as Benny, in the rock-musical RENT, produced by the Keegan Theatre, he received a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Ensemble, Resident Musical.
As a producer, Daniels wrote & directed his original play Thinking Under the Influence, part of the inaugural Capital Fringe Festival in 2005. Most recently, he produced Monologue Madness 2018, DC’s sixth annual tournament of acting, a competition which attracts actors from up and down the east coast who compete for an array of awards including a $1000 grand prize. Monologue Madness has offered over local talent over $20,000 in cash and actor resources and will expand to Atlanta and Los Angeles over the next two seasons.
His national tour credits include Buffalo Soldier and A Christmas Carol with Theatre IV; film credits include Step Up 2, Ladder 49, L.U.V, and HBO’s upcoming Game Change; and television credits include Netflix (House of Cards), CBS (The District), and ABC (Commander in Chief). Daniels has appeared in a host of industrial & short films, including the Adrenaline Film Project, DC 48 Hour Film Project, and is currently featured in Season 7, Episode 7 of the Showtime series Homeland.
Daniels is also founding owner of Scorpio Entertainment, a DJ and event production company, celebrating 13 years of business in 2018 and booking of over 600 events!
Daniels is a 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia, holding a B.A. in Philosophy, and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States.
